Knocking back another Pumpkin Ale here, this time it's from another first-time-reviewed brewrery for Professor Sudz: New Holland Brewing Company. The last Pumpkin Ale I reviewed, Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale, was kind of a dud, so let's hope New Holland's Ichabod Pumpkin Ale, named after the same guy, is a little more tasty.
Ichabod Pumpkin Ale is a brown colored brew, pretty clear with some haze, small white and short-lived head.
The smell is really enticing. Pumpkin, loads of cinnamon, spice, ginger, some nutmeg.
Pale malt start to the taste, quite a bit of a pumpkin, cinnamon, sweet and spicy mix. Nutmeg, some earthiness, maybe a bit of clove. Medium bodied and pretty smooth.
New Holland Ichabod Pumpkin Ale starts off in the right direction, gets about knee deep in it, and then just fails to get to the end zone. They could use this mix of flavor, but just push it forward to a bit of a fuller beer, and I think it would be really good. As it is, it isn't bad, and if you like pumpkin beers you will probably like this one. I like it, I just wish it went a little further.
